Well hey there. It’s been a while.
I’m still languishing in the middle of my second book. I’m sure I’ll rectify that soon…
In the meantime, I’ve been busy with other bookish stuff.
I just finished teaching the self-editing intensive workshop, and that was fantastic. The five authors who took the course were all really talented and interesting, and had such different stories and styles. I hope to see all of them in print soon.
Last weekend was the Bold Strokes Book festival in Nottingham, and for the first time, I sat on a panel as an author, which was a bit surreal if I’m honest. I read a sex scene out of my first novel, Fury’s Bridge, for the Salty panel. It was exciting, but also anxiety causing. What if it sounded good in my head, but shit when I said it out loud?
I think it went okay. It was short, anyway. And given that I’d lost my voice thanks to a nasty bug that is still kicking my ass, it may have sounded better than it would have otherwise.
The rest of the festival went really well too. Turn out was amazing, with lots of new faces. Most of the authors had a new book out, and it was great listening to them read their new stuff. Lots of people joined us for the after parties at Rough Trade and The New Foresters, and it was good to chat with old friends and new. I heard several different pitches, all of which sounded interesting, and I’m really hoping those authors continue to write.
Aside from that, I’ve got two new stories coming out this month. God’s Tamales is my story in Order Up: A Buffet of Lesbian Romance and Erotica, eds RG Emanuelle and Andi Marquette. It features a homeless woman and a restaurateur, which is pretty off my usual path, but was a story I felt compelled to write. My other story, Resurrection, is in Me and My Boi, edited by Sacchi Green, and that’s more along the lines of my usual dirty writing, but this time I’m playing with gender expectations. It’s been a personal favorite of mine for a long time, and I hope you like it too.
If you’re at all interested in what I’ve got to say about those stories, or other things, check out my blog at breywillows.com This month I’m involved in the blog tours for the launch of the two anthologies. I’m published under a variety of names now, so if you’re interested, check out my books page to see what name I use where. Or, just buy them and guess!
I’m hoping to do a bit of photo blogging while on holiday the next few weeks. Hope you’ll stop by!
